Giving Back
Violet (Tarnasky) Ova '49 of Huntsville, Ala., maintains great affection for her days at Jamestown College and the influence the College had on her life. She met her late husband Orville (Bud) Ova '52, a chemistry major, on campus. Violet also developed life-long friendships here and influenced younger brother and Alumni Hall of Fame member, William Tarnasky '58, to follow her to Jamestown College.
Violet has continued her close relationship with Jamestown College through several planned gifts. She and Bud established the Violet (Tarnasky) and Orville (Bud) Ova Scholarship. Violet plans to supplement that scholarship through a bequest. She has also created four Charitable Gift Annuities to date with the remainders to be added to the scholarship. Violet says she feels privileged to be in a position to be able to assist students and the mission of the College through her gifts.
"I had a four year scholarship to attend Jamestown College (after graduating as the Valedictorian at Lehr High School)," Violet said. "I'm just giving back because I am so grateful for the scholarships I received. I am so happy to be able to help other students."
Violet's experience with Charitable Gift Annuities has been rewarding. "It has been wonderful! Especially now with in the interest on CDs so low while I receive almost 8%," she said. "Being able to leave the remainders to the Ova Scholarship is a plus. I think it is a great deal for me and for the College."
Violet has stayed busy in recent years with travel, gardening (she grows wonderful daffodils and azaleas) and joining her friends in Huntsville for events and activities. She retired from her career in education when she and Bud moved to Huntsville several years ago. She had been on the faculty in the public school system in Camarillo, Calif.
