To Honor a Loved One/Rev. Wayne McKirdy

Rev. Wayne McKirdy '55 of Valley City, ND explored several options with organizations thoughout North Dakota for the best way to honor his late wife, Maybelle, after she passed away in 2009. He chose to establish the Maybelle and Wayne McKirdy Scholarship at Jamestown College. Wayne established a cash payment schedule that will soon bring the scholarship to endowed status. At the same time, because he wished to provide immediate support to Jamestown College students, he also established the Maybelle and Wayne McKirdy Jimmie Generation Scholarship that will provide annual financial aid in the interim.

"I chose Jamestown College because they have the best nursing program," Wayne said recently. "Maybelle always wanted to be a nurse, and would have been a good one, but could not afford to attend college. I thought the scholarship could assist a prospective student that may be in a similar situation. Of course, the fact that I am an alumnus of Jamestown College may have helped in my decision!"
