A Significant Gift Without Writing a Check/Dr. Duane Hyde

A Significant Gift Without Writing a Check/Dr. Duane Hyde
Alumni of Jamestown College have always been generous with their alma mater. Sometimes it has taken some creative estate planning to enable a gift to the College that continues to be dear to them. Several years ago, Dr. Duane Hyde, MD '47 established an irrevocable trust that provides a generous future gift to the College.

"Jamestown College gave more to me than I had given them", Duane said recently. "Scholarships allowed me to attend. The College put more into financing my education than I could. Then after serving during World War II, the GI Bill provided assistance. I received a great education. I wanted to do something to repay the College. "

"Establishing a trust with Jamestown College as a beneficiary provided advantages for me and the College," he continued. "A large gift of cash wasn't possible and the continued income was reassuring. It (the trust) made it possible for me to give back."

Duane was awarded the Alumni Cup as "the most worthwhile student of the graduating class" at commencement in 1947. He and his wife Joyce (Hartley) ('45) live in King City, Calif. They also have a home with incredible views of the Pacific Ocean near Big Sur, Calif. Joyce and Duane first met on the Jamestown College campus.
